Cardiovascular Care - TAVR - "Big Jay's" Story

Jay advised his father to consult an Ascension Wisconsin cardiologist -- advice that changed the lives of both father and son.

“Big Jay,” 85, was told that he needed a heart valve replaced. Until recently, when generous donors and the Foundation stepped forward, that would have meant open-heart surgery.

But thanks to your support, Ascension Wisconsin offers the very latest in heart surgery:  Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, a minimally invasive procedure. TAVR requires just a small opening in an artery -- without opening the chest -- so patients leave the hospital sooner and recover in just days.

Big Jay traveled 60 miles from his home to Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s in Milwaukee for the TAVR procedure -- “truly a blessing,” as his son, “Little Jay,” told us.

Little Jay and Big Jay are grateful to you for making TAVR, and more time together, possible.

“His care was very good. The nurse who rolled him out was hugging him goodbye.”

“He’s got a lot of will left and wants to keep enjoying life. The new procedure gave him that chance!”
